Well, my head hurts. I followed a link from one of my regular forums and ended up in a world of remarkable sadness, anger, delusion and greed.
I went to see the petition to remove an anti-diversity website from the Blogger system. The site is called HatingAutism. I’ll leave it to you to find it if you’re curious. I have to recommend against it, though. It’s the “blog” of a guy with an Autistic son. He’s been chelating his son for quite some time and, during this time, his son has been developing. There’s no evidence that there’s a relationship between the chelation and the development, but there is no one so dedicated as he who has seen his bingo talisman pay off.
Now he spends an incredible amount of time, type, and trepidation spitting invectives at anyone who doesn’t leap to medicate the living beejeebus out of their children. The really amazing thing is that he never slows down. Regular folks get angry and then calm down, get angry again, and calm down again. This guy never ever stops. Frankly, he seems a bit nutty to me. “Bring a gun to work one day” type of nutty.
As I traveled on, I found my way the Generation Rescue website, which is a mis-information organization with Jenny McCarthy on the board. I read about how the increase in vaccines matched the increase in Autism, and noted that they apparently have the same logical malady the HatingAutism guy has. It never occured to them, I guess, that Autism was so rare in 1983 because it was inredibly hard to be diagnosed as Autistic. The numbers are so much larger now because you don’t have to be a near-vegetable to earn the title. Back then, you were just a plain idiot, or moron, or “slow.” If you were high enough functioning to now be classified as HFA or Aspergers, you’d have just been “odd” or “”neurotic” or sit in your house the rest of your life like Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird. (A remarkable movie, by the way.)
Then on to the ARI (Autism Research Institute) site. Here I was encouraged to send them a few bucks using my Visa card so they can find the cure for Autism. Or, I could could find a DAN (Defeat Autism Now!) doctor who would cure him now. I’m not sure how they cure children with the cure they haven’t yet found, but I guess that’s why they make the big bucks.
I did the search, and found that there is actually one listed DAN! doctor in Des Moines: Prevention & Healing of Iowa. In Urbandale, on Hickman. I include the link because I think it’s important for folks to know their local loonies well. I will say that they haven’t declared their willingness to do intravenous chelation, just shots, pills and rectal suppositories. I also note they throw quite a positive spin on the fact that they don’t do insurance plans. They leave it to the patient to pay up front and then appeal the sure-to-be-rejected application for reimbursement. Good luck with that.
They also have connections to another local lunacy, the Iowa Health Freedom Coalition. As far as I can tell, from their strangely written website, they want legislation to give people, who are not licensed to practice medicine, the right to practice medicine without a license without fear of being arrested for practicing medicine without a license. They promise, in turn, to not set bones, cut you open in a sterile environment, or prescribe controlled medications. They’ll stick to prescribing stuff that hasn’t been tested at all, or has been deemed useless by the medical establishment. They’ll make their money by not actually giving the patient any scientifically tested medication, while promising the patient relief, nonetheless. Expensive, uninsured relief.
I wonder whether that will stop them from doing their DAN! duties or not? I suspect not.
So, anyway, I’ve seen more crap tonight that I can stand. I have a headache. I’m sure it is a Neurodiversity conspiracy, caused by heavy metals in my last vaccination, and easily cured by 52 rounds of DSMA inserted rectally.
::: sigh :::
The guy who runs HatingAutism I’m pretty sure is autistic himself -
Narrow interests, massive amounts of time spent online, and that TEMPER.
The only other interest I have been able to find on him is that he’s involved with horses somehow so I have this suspicion he thinks somehow horse breaking techniques can be applied to autistic children.
The other thing I REALLY suspect is that he had parents into brutal discipline himself so he’s grown to the point that he reacts to anything “autistic” with some real vitriol because I’m guessing he was beat senseless any time he acted “autistic” himself as a kid.
Kind of sad in a way when you think about it.
Exactly. My suspicions too. Whenever I run into that much single-minded, pointed anger, I always hear “Methinks ye protest too loudly.”
It makes sense that a large number of these mercury parents are Aspies themselves, or close to it, given that it takes an Autistic (or someone with at least some of the genetics) to make an Autistic.
Actually, he mentioned on wrong planet (before he was banned, AGAIN) that some crackpot doc gave him the aspie dx. Or was it high functioning autism??? I can’t remember. Sorry you had to experience that.
Have you heard the story where a DAN! doc killed a kid a year or so ago?
Here, just to balance out the negative with some good, let me point you in the way of some of my favorite blogs (I’m linking to one of my posts because it lists my top 10 faves): http://lastcrazyhorn.wordpress.com/2008/04/12/excellent/
Thanks :-) I’ll look at them tomorrow. (Sleepy sleepy)
I heard of the DAN! killing. I suspect that there are many others we’ve never heard about.
Or wasn’t connected due to it being related to a side effect. From what I’ve heard, chelation is really unpleasant with bad side effects.
Yeah I’ve seen the hatingautism website. it’s complete and utter nonsense.
That dude needs to croak already. WTF is taking him so long?
If I were his autistic kid, he woulda been long croaked already.
